Today, social media, such as Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, What’s app,etc. are important sources of information for individuals.. Taking into account the space which has become occupied by social media in people’s lives, it has become a strong base to broadcast rumours, disinformation, and manipulation of people’s minds and emotions. As a result, distinguishing between true and false information has become a real challenge for social media users. This is what drew attention to this phenomenon, and it is of core importance in this study.
The main question of the case study are the following: what are the realities, risks and confrontation methods of rumours in social media? So the objective of this case study is to identify realities, risks and confrontation methods of rumours in social media by using the descriptive and analytical research methodologies in order to get deep understanding of this phenomenon in the Arabic culture context.The study drew a conclusion that it is important to face the gravity of rumours in social media through the strategy of response during a crisis and the informing responsibility of both the audience and the participants.
