A DOMINANT EXPRESSIVE SPEECH ACTS IN BRONTE'S "WUTHERING HEIGHTS" SOCIO-PRAGMATIC STUDY

Abstract The present paper investigates language which represents a community's or ethnicity's identity, displaying various aspects of communication and social construction in Bronte's "Wuthering Heights". It is hypothesized that the social dialect which influenced by factors like education and occupation, social stratification, reflects language diversity. It is showed that analysis of speech acts in Bronte's Wuthering Heights reveals how speech characterizes individuals and ties them to social groups, defining their social status. It is aimed at explaining Bronte's uses of speech acts to differentiate characters and identify their social standing in Victorian literature, referencing a list of sources.
